Solo Piano

I've very excited about a show that I will be performing at this Saturday at Carnegie Mellon University.  This will be my first solo piano set outside of dinner parties.  I will have a few new pieces, one incorporating electronics. A mix of improvisation and instructions and some randomness.

Tracker Following

"Tracker Following" falls into the category of work that I have made, but have no immediately apparent channel for public release (that's part of the reason for this blog).  The piece was written sometime in August 2009 as a song that I could play at solo shows to mesh with a song-based acoustic set or to provide some structure in an improvised setting.  So far, I haven't needed it for either, but I was able to record a few takes while gallery sitting at ModernFormations Gallery in mid-September 2009.

Winter Work Ethic

Maybe it is the sudden change in temperature, but I am gradually gaining the urge to stay inside, surround myself with instruments, and do some serious writing and recording. I have some updates of what you will see in this blog in the future (one of which, I am especially excited about) and some updates of new projects that I will be working on.

Bass Inversions

Recently I read through the 33 1/3 book on Steely Dan's Aja and I immediately went into another Dan phase - listening through all the records + the Fagen solo discs (Becker solo should usually be avoided).  The book gives nice insight into their chord structures and chord movement - inversions and all.  So, while writing some material for the next Assembly record, I found myself trying to expand the harmonic palette a bit.  Combine some Steely Dan logic with some things I picked up from my friend, Daryl Fleming's "Mattress in the Basement (a beautiful piece of music)

Birth of the blog

First of all, welcome to my first blog in years. The focus of this blog will be music production and sound design, encompassing my creative work with various bands and musicians and my commercial work. So, for this first post, let's focus on the band, Assembly.
